Kristine Rowan Barkley Memorial - Simply the Best.jpg

Why Simply the Best?

Kristine was simply the best at everything she did. She was a devoted daughter, sister, mother, grandmother, aunt, nurse, teacher, friend, tennis player, Breasta Fiesta teammate, walker, bridge player, and dancer. Whatever the role, she brought her whole heart to it.

Kristine also loved Tina Turner, and “The Best” became one of her songs, along with “Proud Mary.” So when our family searched for the words that could somehow capture our love for Kristine and describe how we wanted her to be remembered, the answer felt obvious:

Simply the Best.  Those words became part of her memorial, and today they are at the heart of Simply the Best Books. It is more than a name. It is our way of carrying forward the love, joy, generosity, and encouragement Kristine gave so freely to others.

She was Simply the Best. And through every book given and every student supported, we hope a little of her very best continues to be shared with the world.

A Legacy of Love

She Made Every Step Count.  Kristine loved her family, her friends, and bringing people together. After her breast cancer diagnosis, she chose to turn something difficult into something positive by raising money, walking, laughing, celebrating, and creating memories through the Georgia 2-Day Walk for Breast Cancer.  She never wanted the focus to be on her. Instead, she used her journey to celebrate others, lift people up, and make a difference. And true to Kristine, she had an incredible amount of fun doing it.  These photos capture so much of who she was: surrounded by people she loved, giving back, living fully, and smiling every step of the way.  She didn’t just walk the walk. She made every step matter.
